Wesley Phelps, 65, Tescott, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016 at home after a courageous battle against Myelofibrosis. Wes was born March 11, 1951, at Salina, Kansas, to Harold and Marcella (Griffin) Phelps.
Wes graduated from Tescott High in 1970. He drove a semi for Nelson Truck Line, C&R Truck Line & Western Auto. After many years of driving, Wes then worked as senior maintenance at Western Auto/Advance Auto Parts before retiring in the late 90's due to an on-the-job injury which resulted in fibromyalgia.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors usually fishing, boating, or gardening & also spending time with his grandkids. He loved taking them fishing & always seemed to have the garden tractor, golf cart or ranger ready for them at any given moment to cruise around.
He married Mary Beth (Be) Matthews of Tescott in April 1976. They are the parents of two children Lyle (Ashley) Phelps, Topeka; Jeremy (Kriston) Phelps, Tescott. He is survived by his wife and sons as well as 5 grandchildren; Lucas, Charlie, Avery, Carter, Zach, and seven brothers, Charlie (Carol Ann) Phelps, Gardner, KS; Clayton Phelps, Beverly, KS; Francis Gary 'Pete' Phelps, Parker, CO; Ronald (Carolyn) Phelps, Mahomet, IL; William 'Bill' (Noreen) Phelps, Golden, CO; Larry (Bonny) Phelps, Delia, KS; Wendell (Jan) Phelps, Arvada, CO. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Rockford Ray and Gregory.
A celebration of life will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 9 at the Tescott United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln, KS. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 8 from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tescott United Methodist Church or the KC Hope Lodge, 1120 Pennsylvania Ave., KC, MO 64105.
