Obituary

Alfred Wayne Wallace, 92, Barnard, died Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Salina Regional Health Center. Wayne was born August 11, 1925 to John Alfred "Deak" and Elsie Nora (Pepper) Wallace. He was born on the family homestead which is still in the family to this day. Wayne was one of seven children; Delbert, Elberta Mueller, Wayne, baby Thomas, Bill, Twila, and Elsie Keeler.

Wayne graduated from Lincoln High School and he then joined the United States Army and was stationed in Japan. He met the love of his life while working at Boeing in Wichita. Genevieve "Jean" Ollstedt and Wayne were married on September 7, 1954. She brought with her two sons, Don and Kenny, which he quickly legalized as his own. Jean died in 1982 leaving a big hole in his heart. He later met Lenore "Lee" Speier at a polka dance and that hole in his heart was filled in. Lee and Wayne were married in December of 1983 and he gained two daughters, Shirley and Sharon. Lee passed away in 2007.

Wayne was a Lincoln County Commissioner and mayor of Barnard.   Many people looked up to him as a Barnard historian. He was also a lifetime Mason and farmer and rancher. Wayne had a great love of the land and his family. His grandparents, Tom and Elizabeth came from Scotland and homesteaded the family farm northeast of Barnard. . He was very proud of being a "Scot". He was also co-owner, with his son Kenny, of Wallace and Son Construction Company. They built many ponds, terraces, and waterways in neighboring counties and his own farm. Wayne did custom harvesting for a few years traveling to several states.

Left to celebrate a life well lived are his dog, Rinkus; children, Kenny (Ava Brown) Wallace, Pam (Brent) Moeder, and Steve (Carol Hamel) Wallace; brother, Bill (Linda) Wallace; sister, Elsie Keeler; grandchildren, Jeff and Nick Wallace, Mike and Jenifer Cousins; Jennifer Walters, Ashley Salazar, Genevieve, Bridget, and Chris Muck, Stephanie and Shawn Wallace, and Sharlyn and Shannon Corrigan; great-grandchildren, Keagon, Wyhatt, Denayah, Olivia, Jasmine, Ivory, Mila, Jaxton, O'Ryan, and Tripp; great-great-grandson, Justice; plus many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Jean and Lee; siblings, Delbert, Elberta, baby Thomas, and Twila; sons, Don, David, and Mike; and grandson, Patrick.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Monday, January 29 at the Barnard United Methodist Church. Cremation will follow the services. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Sunday at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, where the family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00. Memorials may be made to the Barnard United Methodist Church or the Barnard Community Building.
