Thomas A. McGinness
Thomas A. McGinness, 99, Salina, Kansas (formerly of Bennington) passed away Monday, May 11, 2009 at the Presbyterian Manor, Salina, Kansas.
Thomas, the oldest of seven children, was born June 30, 1909 in Lincoln County, Kansas to Harley and Minnie (Yohe) McGinness.
He was united in marriage with Doris Irene Nelson on July 15, 1934 in Westfall, Kansas. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was held captive as a German Prisoner of War. After returning Stateside he worked in Hutchinson for International Harvester, eventually settling in Bennington where he and his wife, Doris, ran the McGinness Repair Shop from 1951 until 1995. He also farmed in Lincoln County for many years. Thomas was a member of the Community Bible Church of Minneapolis and a former member of the Bennington Gun Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 74 years, Doris McGinness of Salina; brother, Harlen McGinness and his wife Audrey of WaKeeney, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M., Thursday at the Community Bible Church, Minneapolis with the Revs. Doug Neumann and Bob Manning officiating. Burial will be in the Bennington Cemetery with military honors by Fort Riley. Friends may sign the register book from 2 P.M. to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Wilson Shields Funeral Home, Minneapolis. Memorials may be made to the Community Bible Church or the Salina Presbyterian Manor.
