Thelma Louise (Doering) Harris, 94, Edmond, Oklahoma (formerly of Minneapolis, Kansas) died Sunday, August 2, 2009 at Bradford Village in Edmond.
Thelma was born May 27, 1915 in Ottawa County, Kansas to Lee and Almeda (Hull) Doering. She was united in marriage with Ralph Harris on August 9, 1936. Thelma was employed by several businesses in Minneapolis and she was retired from ElDorado Corp. She was a homemaker and helped with the farming operations. Thelma loved to ride horses and even did so at the county fair. She loved music and played the piano. Thelma was a great influence on her daughters and they too love it also. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed curtains for ElDorado and she enjoyed other handcrafts. She was a longtime member of the Jolly Jane's Club.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband; her son, William Harris; her sons-in-law, Larry Boss, John Johnson, and Dwayne Belvill; her grandson, Aaron Boss; and great-granddaughter, Hannah Welch.
She is survived by her children, Verneda Belvill of Littleton, Colorado, Beverly Allen and her husband Sam of Edmond, and Sheryl Johnson of Fayetteville, North Carolina; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 A.M. Monday at Wilson Shields Funeral Home, Minneapolis with Pastor Helen Martin officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 P.M. to 8 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7 P.M. to 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ottawa County Health Center or Good Samaritan Society – Minneapolis and may be left in care of the funeral home.
