Stella M. Horting, 83, Tescott, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 22, 2011. She was born March 8, 1927 in Kansas City, MO to Ed and Rachel ( Duggins ) Schmitt.
Stella was united in marriage with Harold Horting on November 3, 1945 at the University Methodist Church, Salina. To this union three children were born; Charlotte, Earl, and Ty. Stella was always concerned about other people even more than herself. She was a homemaker and devoted wife. Stella always felt like she couldn't do enough for her children and her husband. She worked and waited on Harold for over 65 years including helping him clean the Tescott schools for 24 years.
Stella was a member of the Tescott United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women for over 50 years. She was the Sunday school secretary for 37 years and was a longtime member of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her brother Edward Schmitt.
Survivors include her husband Harold of the home; her children Charlotte Groelly and her husband Ernie of Hillsborough, NJ; Earl Horting and his wife Trudy of Topeka; and Ty Horting and his wife Lenee of Plainville; her brother Robert Schmitt of Kansas City, MO; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday at the Tescott United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Franklin Cemetery, Tescott. Visitation will be from 2 P.M. to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis where the family will receive friends from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tescott United Methodist Church.
