Sidney W. Anderson, 78, Abilene, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the Salina Regional Health Center. He was born May 3, 1938 on the Anderson homestead in Griggs County, ND to G.B. and Clara N. (Evenson) Anderson of Binford, ND,

Sid moved to Minneapolis to live with Uncle Andy and Aunt Emily Anderson his freshman year. Lorraine, Dorothy, and his mom and dad followed the next year. To G.B. and Clara it was important for the children to get an education.

Sid graduated from Minneapolis High School in 1956 and joined the United States Navy on October 30, 1956. He was on the Bryce Canyon ship and he was proud to be a supply parts man. Sid loved docking in Subic Bay Japan and Hawaii.   He was honorably discharged in 1960. Sid attended a 50 ^th year reunion in Norfolk, VA and he also visited the Grey Goose ship in Portland, OR. Those were big highlights for him.

He returned to Minneapolis and worked several years for Gilley's. Sid eventually moved to Great Bend. He loved Massey Ferguson and eventually lived the rest of his life in Abilene selling parts. He worked for Abilene Machine until his retirement.

Sid loved to draw and paint pictures, landscapes, and homesteads in North Dakota. He loved plants, and enjoyed gardening for many years. Sid loved cooking and his Swiss steak, salads, and deviled eggs were loved by his entire family. He also enjoyed building outside Christmas decorations and many family members proudly displayed them in their yards during the holidays. Sid loved baseball and he was a devout Kansas Royals fan up until his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Lorraine M. Stephens; niece Lori Renee Stephens; nephew Curtis Allen Stephens; and two brother-in-laws Richard "Dick" Casey and Robert D. Pittenger.

Survivors include his sisters Dorothy Casey of Minneapolis and Delores Pittenger of Portland, ND; and many nieces and nephews who reside in Kansas, Virginia, Minnesota, North Dakota, Florida, and Washington State.

Graveside services with Naval Honors will be at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 20 at Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. There will be no visitation.
