Rowena Mae Simpson, 92, Minneapolis, died Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at the Ottawa County Health Center, Minneapolis. Rowena was born July 8, 1926 in Lamar to Bruff and Tillie (Barnes) Wilkins.

After high school graduation, Rowena took normal training and taught for three years in Ottawa and Cloud Counties. On December 13, 1947 she was united in marriage with Leonard Simpson in Delphos.

Rowena worked many jobs throughout her life. She enjoyed crocheting, putting puzzles together, and tending to their flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leonard in 2007; daughters, Jenelle Hoel in 1986 and Pat Mick in 2002; son-in-law, John Hoel; brother, Bob Wilkins and sister, Ruby Becker.

Survivors are her children, Toni Swagerty and husband James and Burton Simpson and wife Kim; son-in-law, Steve Mick; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren with two on the way; brother-in-law, Bob Johnson; sister-in-law, Peg Wilkins; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Monday, March 18 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. Visitation without the family present will be Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 3201 and may be left in care of the funeral home.
