Rovena I. McGavran, 92, Minneapolis, Kansas, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Ottawa County Health Center, Minneapolis.
Rovena was born January 18, 1918 near Wells, Kansas to Fred and Grace (Kay) Windhorst. On June 7, 1936 she was united in marriage with Carl R. McGavran in Wells. He preceded her in death on August 26, 1995. Rovena was a bookkeeper and a homemaker. She was also a member of the Ada United Methodist Church.
Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her daughter Deanna Cross on November 4, 1995; her sister Bonnie Sparger; and her son-in-law Eugene Robbins.
Survivors include her children Nancy Robbins of Minneapolis, Ray McGavran and his wife Margaret of Minneapolis, Fred McGavran and his wife Betty of St. Louis, MO, and Tom McGavran and his wife Emley of Minneapolis; her son-in-law Melvin Cross and his wife Dixie of Salina; her brother LeRoy Windhorst and his wife Maxine of Wells; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, Minneapolis. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 2 P.M. to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Rocky Mountain Multiple Sclerosis Center or the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and may be left in care of the funeral home.
