Obituary

On Saturday, February 4, 2023, Robert ("Bob") M. Klein, 81 years old, joined his wife, Marjorie, and son, Derek, in Heaven. He did not know a stranger and delighted in getting to know others.

He graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University in Education and taught in the Haddam and Delphos School Districts.  Bob had a passion for teaching, especially Social Studies, Geography and Science to Junior High students.  His goal was to make learning fun and prepare students for future life adventures. One of his favorite school days was Rocket Day, when it was socially appropriate to blow stuff up!

One of his creative teaching methods was a multiple choice test challenge: Miss all 10 questions and you receive 100%.  If one question is correct, you receive a zero.  Only the brave took him up on this.

Mr. Klein's Rules held a prominent place in his classroom.

Rule Number 1: The Teacher is always right.

Rule Number 2: If the Teacher is wrong, refer to Rule Number 1.

He enjoyed helping his father-in-law and son farm and was known to liven up wheat harvest with a daily clothing theme such as Hawaiian shirt day, Overall day, etc.  Bonding with others while working on various farm implements was his definition of a good time.

He was a General Aviation pilot and was fond of building remote control airplanes with his K&G Hobby buddies.

Driving his Cadillacs in various parades was a source of enjoyment. Bob enjoyed working for Beloit Auto and Truck for 15 years.

He volunteered his time to enrich the Delphos Community as he was a past Delphos Mayor and a member of the Delphos Cemetery Board, Delphos City Council, Delphos Co-op Board, Delphos Fire Department, Delphos First Presbyterian Church, Delphos Museum, Delphos Lions Club, Delphos Library Board, Ottawa County Zoning Commission and the Ottawa County Planning Board.

He is survived by his daughter, Sonja; son-in-law John; grandson, John and many nieces, nephews, special friends at the Delphos Senior Center, his Delphos High School Classmates of 1960, and his Thursday evening meal mates.

Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, February 9 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, February 10 at the funeral home with burial following in the Delphos Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the Delphos Lions Club, Delphos Senior Center, or the Delphos Museum and mailed to the Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.
