Randy Ray Bertrand, age 60, of Minneapolis, Kansas, went to his heavenly home on Monday, July 6, 2015. He was born September 14, 1954, in Ellsworth, Kansas, to Charles (Larry) and Javine (Howard) Bertrand.
He was united in marriage to his best friend, Patricia Jean Befort, on November 19, 1976, in Ellis, Kansas. They began their married life in Denver, Colorado. They subsequently moved to Salina, Kansas, and later to Minneapolis, Kansas, where they have made their home for many years.
He graduated from Minneapolis High School in 1972 and Fort Hays State College in 1976 with a degree in Business Administration. He was a dedicated employee of ElDorado National for 36 years.
Randy loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and encouraged and cheered them on in their sports endeavors.
Randy had a passion for golf and was a member of the Minneapolis Golf Course for many years. He served as Secretary of the Mens' Golf League for many years, retiring in 2014. He also served on their Board of Directors for several terms. He won the coveted Club Championship in September 2013.
Randy especially enjoyed watching the local high school football and basketball teams and followed some students in their college careers. He worked the "chain gang" at MHS football games for several years. In October 2014, he and his wife were honored by the MHS Football Seniors with the Award of Excellence for Exemplary Display of Sportsmanship, Ethics & Integrity issued by the National Federation of State High School Associations and the Kansas State High School Activities Association. He was a member of the Minneapolis First United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where in recent years he could be found behind the camera recording the church service.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Patti; two daughters, Brandy (David) Womack of Arkansas City, and Andrea (Nickolaus) Hernandez of Arkansas City; five grandchildren, Annicka, Alexander and Xavier Hernandez of Arkansas City; and Sophia and Olivia Womack of Arkansas City; his parents Charles (Larry) and Javine Bertrand of Minneapolis; one brother Bruce (Sherrie) Bertrand of Assaria; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, where the family will receive friends from 6-8. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 10 at the First United Methodist Church, Minneapolis. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. Memorials may be made to the Minneapolis First United Methodist Church for camera and media room improvements, or the Minneapolis Golf Course for high school scholarships.
It was Randy's wish that those attending his Celebration of Life be comfortable by wearing their favorite casual/sports attire.
