Phyllis M. Cline, 86, Minneapolis, died Monday, February 5, 2018 at the Ottawa County Health Center, Minneapolis. Phyllis was born August 1, 1931 in Ottawa County to Bennett and Marie (Montague) Adee.
Phyllis and Virgil L. Cline were united in marriage on January 29, 1950 in Manhattan. She was a lifelong teacher; teaching in Ada and Delphos for many years. In retirement, Phyllis and Virgil bought an RV and joined the Salina Sam's Club. They made new friends and visited many places near and far. After Virgil died, Phyllis continued to camp with her friends especially with Lois Kepple. The other RV travelers kept "the girls" busy and watched out for them in case they had problems with the rig. Phyllis got involved with traveling on Mission trips through American Baptist Church and the Wesleyan Church. She made many trips to Alaska, other trips to faraway places like South Africa, Belize, Australia, and Honduras. Most of these trips were work missions. Phyllis usually spent months of planning healthy menus for large quantities of hard working people and purchasing supplies for the trips. The number of suitcases with pork loins, hamburger, and chocolate chips she sent, no one will ever know. She even packed her mixer and some of her favorite tools on some trips. Darrell Allison said the money Phyllis saved on the food equaled extra cash that they could donate to the mission. On these trips, Phyllis would also teach sewing, upholstery, patching clothes, and paint walls to missionary color using a mixture of leftover paints. One of her other passions was visiting local daycares and pre-schools where she interacted with children. She'd read, bake, and do "gummy" projects with them. Phyllis was a longtime member of the Antioch Baptist Church and the A-Team, both of Ada.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, in 1995; siblings, Russ, Aubrey, Don, Maurice, Ray, and Ellis.
Survivors are her children, Kevin Cline and wife Sandy and Susan Achterberg and husband Galen; siblings, Martha Edgar and Grover Adee; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 9 at the Antioch Baptist Church, Ada. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church.
