Mildred Arlene (Parks) Shivers, 84, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at the Minneapolis Good Samaritan Center. Mildred was born the only daughter of Miles Sr. and Lelia Parks on January 2, 1924, at Delphos, Kansas. Mildred was raised on a farm west of Delphos along with her 4 brothers. She graduated from Delphos High School in 1941. She was united in marriage to Winfred "Nuke" Shivers on Jan 3, 1942 in Abilene, Kansas. The first year of their marriage, Mildred lived in Baltimore, Maryland, while Nuke worked in the shipyards. When he was drafted into the service for World War II, they moved to San Luis Obispo, California. When Nuke was sent overseas, Mildred moved back to Delphos to be near her family. To this union was born 5 sons and 3 daughters.
Mildred and Nuke farmed in several areas of Kansas their entire lives until retiring and moving to Concordia, Kansas. After her husband's death, Mildred moved to Abilene. In September of 2008 she moved to Good Samaritan Center in Minneapolis, Kansas where she lived at the time of her death.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Miles Parks Jr. and her husband, Nuke.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Sue Adams and her husband Calvin of Beloit, Ks; Lelia Kagle, Eldorado, Kansas; Mary Torrez and her husband, Carlos, Winfield, Ks.; and 5 sons. Bill Shivers and his wife, Shelley, of Clay Center, Ks; Richard Shivers and his wife, Dawn, of Abilene, Ks; Greg Shivers of Abilene; Jerry Shivers of Denver, Colo., and Douglas Shivers of Garden City, Ks. She is also survived by 3 brothers, Bob Parks and his wife Nancy of Kansas City, Ks; Richard Parks and his wife, Jeanette; of Garden City, Ks.; and George Parks and his wife, Donna, of Denver Colo., and one brother-in-law, Raymond Shivers and his wife, Phyllis, of Cherryvale, Ks. Mildred is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 3:00 P.M. Saturday at Wilson Shields Funeral Home, Minneapolis. Burial will be in the Delphos Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:30 P.M. to 8 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association and may be left in care of the funeral home.
