May L. Sheppard,98, of Salina, formerly of Tescott, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2009. She was born May 4, 1911 in Ellsworth County, to Charles and Emma (Bealby) Gregory.
She married Ray C. Sheppard on June 5, 1938. May and Ray lived on as farm south of Tescott for 52 years and moved into Tescott in 1990. Ray passed away in February 1994. May moved to Sterling House, Salina, in September 2007.
May was a homemaker and taught school for a total of 24 years in Ellsworth, Rice and Ottawa Counties.
She completed her degree at Kansas Wesleyan University, Salina. She was a member of the Tescott United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and taught many years in the church Sunday School. She attended the Tuesday Morning Bible Group of Tescott and quilted with the UMW Quilters. She was also a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority of Emporia State University.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and six brothers: Ralph, Wilmer, Courtney, Chester, Lee and Howard Gregory.
Survivors include three sons: Charles and wife Connie of Lenexa; Sid and wife Karen of Topeka; Sam and wife Carol of Salina and one daughter Kathy Razak and husband Stan of Solomon; 10 grandchildren: Jeff Sheppard, Jami Sheppard, Stacey Rose, Kelly Sheppard, Kristi Lowe, Michelle Milhon, Bill Sheppard, Melissa Clark, Keith Razak and Kyle Razak; 25 great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Powers and Bid Sheppard of Leavenworth, and nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday, May 8 at the Wilson Shields Funeral Home, Minneapolis. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 9 at the Tescott United Methodist Church, followed by burial in Franklin Cemetery, Tescott. Memorials may be made to the Tescott Alumni Scholarship Fund.
