Maxine Eldora Windhorst, 101, Wells, died Monday, December 4, 2017 at the Ottawa County Health Center, Minneapolis. She was born September 11, 1916 near Andover to Harrison and Florence (Long) Baker.
Maxine was united in marriage with LeRoy Fred Windhorst on October 25, 1941 in Wichita where they made their home until LeRoy joined the Army Air Corp in 1943. The next several years were spent being near LeRoy in Kansas City, Mo, San Antonio, and Amarillo, TX. After his discharge from the service in 1946, they made their home in Wells.
She was a member of the Sunset Spiritualist Church and was active in several organizations including Rock Hill 4H, and the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 3201 of which she was a life member. Maxine was a charter member of the Wells Willing Workers extension and the Wells Lions Club. She was a homemaker and later was employed by the Elmore Gift Shop in Salina. After retirement, she helped at Keith's Gardens in Wells.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, LeRoy on September 21, 2016 and her sister, Geraldine Russum.
Survivors are her sons Randy and wife Bernie of Wichita and Phil of Bennington; and two grandchildren Andrea and Alex both of Bennington.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 9 at Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, where the family will receive friends from 5-7. Memorials may be made to the Wells Community Center.
