Mattie A. Austin, 95, Bennington, Kansas died Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at the Salina Regional Health Center. Mattie was born March 23, 1915 in Kansas City, KS to Edward and Alice (Roediger) Scheffler.
She worked on the assembly line at ElDorado and was a bus driver for the Ottawa County Aging Department. Mattie was also a sign language instructor. She was a resident of Bennington since 1967 and remained in her home until her death. Mattie was a member of the Bennington Senior Center and the United Church of Bennington.
Mattie was preceded in death by a son Roy Austin and her sister Ruth Seals.
Survivors include her sons Ramon Juiliano and his wife Susan of Concordia, Bruce Austin and Gary Austin both of Bennington; her daughters Darlene Austin Greenamyer and her husband Doug of Nashville, TN, Alyce Goin and her husband Michael of Alta Vista, KS, and Mary Holeman and her husband Greg of Salina, KS; her brother Roy Scheffler of Kansas City, KS; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday at the United Church of Bennington. Inurnment will follow in the Bennington Cemetery. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Bennington Senior Center or the United Church of Bennington and may be left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.
