Mary Jane Byrd was born May 15, 1919 in Belleville, Kansas to John and Harriett Ann (Giebar) Snyder. She passed away Thursday, April 16, 2009 at the Ottawa County Health Center, Minneapolis, Kansas.
Mary Jane was united in marriage with Charles W. Byrd on May 21, 1938 in Belleville. She was a homemaker and was very active in the Bennington community. Mary Jane was a member of the United Church of Bennington, Bennington PTA, Canasta Club, Lady Lions, and she was a former secretary for the Bennington Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles on September 16, 1997.
Mary Jane is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Dr. Frank Ferson of Salina; two grandchildren, Gregory and Kent Ernzen; three step-grandchildren, Randy and Ronnie Ferson, and Glynda Grap; great-grandchildren, Travis, Skylar, Aaron, Cara, and Luke Ernzen; step-grandchildren, Chris and Carrie Fuller and Coury and Maddy Ferson; and two great-great-grandchildren, Quinton Ernzen and Claire Miller.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday at the Bennington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday at Wilson Shields Funeral Home, Minneapolis where the family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Charles W. Byrd Library at Bennington Grade School or the Ottawa County Health Center Long Term Care Activities Department.
