LaVada M. Istas, 84, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, Kansas.
LaVada was born July 4, 1925 in Aurora, Kansas to Carl F. and Cordelia M. (Paquette) Hofflinger. She married Frances "Buck" Istas on December 31, 1941. LaVada was a homemaker and worked JC Penney in Lawrence and Salina until her retirement in 1986. LaVada was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt.
She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she was a very active member of the Council of Catholic Women.
LaVada was preceded in death by her husband Buck Istas on May 6, 1998; her sister Loma Demanette; her brother Carl Hofflinger; her son-in-law Bill Weiland; and step-great-grandson Curtis Weiland.
She is survived by her daughters Midge Gartner and her husband Terry of Minneapolis, Nancy Muehl and her husband Mike of Nixa, MO, and Sue Weiland of Minneapolis; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; her sister Shirley Lott and her husband Milt of Minneapolis; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M., Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. Monday at Wilson Shields Funeral Home where a rosary and prayer vigil will be at 7:00 P.M. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
