Kathy D. Ponton, 55, Delphos, Kansas passed away Friday, October 23, 2009 at the Ottawa County Health Center, Minneapolis.
Kathy was born December 29, 1953 in Lindsborg, Kansas to Norman and Velma (Johnson) Nelson. She was a graduate of Marquette High School and she earned her Master's Degree at Kansas State University. Kathy and Rodney Ponton were united in marriage on June 6, 1981 in Marquette. She was a first grade teacher for over 20 years at the Delphos Attendance Center. She later taught second and third grade and Title 1 reading at the Minneapolis Grade School. She was a member of the Delphos United Methodist Church, North Ottawa County Teacher's Association, and the Kansas National Education Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Rod Ponton of the home; her daughters, Randi Helget and her husband Joe of Ottawa and Bailey Ponton of Manhattan; her brother, Deryl Nelson and his wife Donna of El Reno, Oklahoma; and her granddaughter, Sydney Helget.
Funeral services will be at 6:00 P.M., Monday at the Minneapolis Grade School Gymnasium with the Rev. Dave Geisler and Michele McHenry, C.L.P. officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Sunday at Wilson Shields Funeral Home, Minneapolis where the family will receive friends from 3:00P.M. to 6:00 P.M. The casket will remained closed at the services. Cremation will follow the services and inurnment will be in the Delphos Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Minneapolis Grade School Cub Backers or Hospice of Ottawa County.
