Kathy "Kay" Lea Kindall was born in Lamesa, Texas, September 25, 1950. She attended high school in Lovington, New Mexico.   Kay came to Manhattan, Kansas to attend Manhattan Bible College where she met Neal at a mutual friend's wedding while attending K-State.  They were married in Lovington on August 13, 1971.  After K-State, Neal taught high school for three years at Lacrosse, Kansas and the couple later moved back to the farm in 1976.

Kay was an avid gardener raising vegetables and flowers. She sewed shirts for Neal and the boys and beautiful dresses and dolls for Eve.  Besides keeping the books for the farm, she homeschooled Rex, Luke and Eve through high school.

Kay ran the combine in harvest, cutting wheat and was a crucial support for the farm, home, and business-all while raising three children. She supported her children in numerous ways from 4-H, piano lessons, taekwondo, Teens for Christ bible club, and numerous other personal interests like ballet.  Her life was totally committed to serving her husband and children.

Kay was known for her strong love and commitment to the truth.  She taught her children to stand firm in their faith even if the whole world disagreed; she was always ready to share her faith.  Her convictions were to raise and teach her children, to support and keep the home, to keep God's feasts, keep His commandments, and her undying love of her husband. Her life convictions were walked out day by day, based on what she knew to be true in the Bible.

Kay finished her degree from the Bible College at age 50.  She operated Trader's Lodge Bed & Breakfast and Fine Dining from 1995 until 2010.  She was known for her unmatched baking, cooking and also her hospitality to her guests. Hunters wanted to return if only to have more cinnamon rolls and other cooking.

She supported Neal's hobby of Mountain man camping and trading by hand, sewing wool blanket capotes that she sold with Neal's Indian artifacts.  She cooked over an open fire in an 18' Sioux tipi from the Grand Tetons in Wyoming to the Alafia, River in Florida.

She made and canned pickles and vegetables, made butter, and her own kombucha.  She liked to write poetry and letters to the editor. Kay lived out her faith in Christ by her commitment to serve her family and tell the story of God's grace for those who obey His teachings and instructions.  Kay wrote and published two children's books on the blessing of God's feast days and a dessert cookbook from the Lodge. She routinely visited several older couples, widows, and liked to volunteer at the hospital and Good Sam rest home with scripture and songs for the residents.

She fought breast cancer for eight years and dementia for three.

She is survived by Neal of the home; a brother, Roy Willingham of Texas; a sister, Kellie Fortune of North Carolina; son Luke; a daughter, Eve of California; and four grandchildren.

A gathering of friends and family will be held at The Old Trader's Lodge on Thursday, May 9, beginning at 7:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 10, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. at Wilson Family Funeral Home in Minneapolis, KS.  Memorials can be made to Ottawa County Museum and left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O.
