Julia A. Nelson, 92, Minneapolis, died Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the Ottawa County Health Center, Minneapolis. She was born February 13, 1922 on the Jagger family farm near Minneapolis to Fred and Ethel (Henderson) Jagger.
She was united in marriage with Ralph Nelson on February 5, 1950 on the Jagger family farm. Julia farmed with her dad and she worked as a midwife. She was the Executive Director of the Minneapolis Housing Authority for many years and she was the director when the Elkhorn Apartments were built in Minneapolis. She retired at the age of 75 in 1996.
Julia was a Girl Scout leader and she was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, Atlantean Brown Club, and the Ottawa County Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph; son Larry Nelson; grandson Josh Nelson; brothers Sid and Joe Jagger; and sister Mary Buchele.
Survivors include her sons Dennis Nelson and his wife Jeannie and Fred Nelson and his wife Jean; daughter Julie Wallace and her husband Scott; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 15 at the Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the V.F.W. Auxiliary Fair Stand Fund or the American Diabetes Association and may be left in care of the funeral home.
