James Robert Davis was born October 25, 1922 in Minneapolis, Kansas to Thomas C. and Florence (Hubbard) Davis. He was a step-son of Ross and Winnie Thompson. Jim went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 13, 2009 at the age of 86 years.
Jim was a retired Navy veteran and served in World War II and was a career veteran. After retirement he moved back to Minneapolis. He was loved by many and always enjoyed sharing the tales of the Navy life.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Harriette Lee Hawkins.
Jim is survived by his sisters, Bonnie Clanton and Ruth Ann (Thompson) Legg and her husband Bill; nieces and nephews, Steve, Curt, Caryl, and Sandra Clanton, Linda Joyce, Terri Quinn, Kent Hawkins, Trice Hawkins, Diedre Evans, Tom Legg, Lisa Hamby, and David Legg; his aunt, Wanda Warnow; and many other relatives and friends.
At his request, his body was cremated. Memorial services will be at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Wilson Shields Funeral Home, Minneapolis with Michele McHenry, C.L.P. officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. Memorial contributions may be made to the Golden Wheel or the Ottawa County Museum and may be left in care of the funeral home.
