He then worked for Hercules Aerospace Company for 37 years in the Navy Programs Office (Polaris & Poseidon Missile Launch Systems). His work took his family to several locations including Lawrence, Kansas; Cumberland, Maryland; Wilmington, Delaware; and Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a member of the Kiwanis, Masons, and confirmed member of the Episcopal Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Betty Jo (1998) and his youngest son, Michael Darin (2003). "The Bear" loved listening to jazz and dancing. It didn't matter whether it was a jitterbug with Betty Jo, a square dance decked out in full western attire, or being crowned King of the Prom at Bentley Commons; he swept all the girls off their feet and onto the dance floor. He always had a pot of coffee brewing which he considered "Nectar of the Gods". He enjoyed camping, bowling, and tennis until his sight was severely affected by Macular Degeneration. Family and friends will truly miss his smiling face and good nature.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M., Thursday at Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis with military honors provided by the United States Navy.
