Gary Robert McKain, 81, of Delphos, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023. Gary was born on September 15, 1941, to Robert and Winifred (Lynch) McKain, at the home of his grandparents, Ernie, and Blanche Lynch in rural Ottawa County.
Gary was a 1959 graduate of Delphos High School. He attended both Kansas State and Kansas Wesleyan Universities and was a member of the ROTC.
Gary and Diane A. Carver were married on August 22, 1964, at the Christian Church in Miltonvale, Kansas.
He worked for Cain Grain Company prior to purchasing and establishing McKain Grain, Inc. In the latter half of his career, he spent 24 years at Schwan's Inc. as a Human Resource Director.
His many community activities included president of the USD 239 school board, member of the Delphos Lion's Club, volunteer fireman and EMT. He was a devoted Christian and served in many capacities in the church.
One of his great joys was coaching the girls' softball team and attending his children and grandchildren's many sporting events and school activities.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Winifred McKain and his niece, Tracy Matheson.
Survivors include his wife, Diane; daughters, Tiffany Lynch and husband Raymond, Sheila McKain, Angela Walters, and husband Justin; seven grandchildren, Caleb Johnson (Morgan), Emily Deegan (Lucas), Benjamin Johnson (fiancé Stephanie), Olivia and Sebastian Waid, Van and Jax Walters; and one great grandchild, Barrett Johnson.
Gary is also survived by a sister Ruth Matheson (Tom) of Peculiar, Missouri and a brother Glen McKain (Kay) of Delphos, Kansas.
Visitation will begin Sunday, August 13, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 14, at 11:00 A.M., at the Words of Light Fellowship, 207 East 2nd Street, Delphos, KS, 67436. Burial will follow in the Delphos Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Words of Light Fellowship youth group or mission fund or the Rebecca A. Morrison House and may be left in care of the funeral home.
