Obituary

Evelyn L. Cooper, 96, Minneapolis, died Thursday, April 2, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society – Minneapolis. She was born July 24, 1918 in Salina to the late John and Carrie (Prim) Payton.
Evelyn was united in marriage with Charles L. Cooper on November 14, 1938 in Minneapolis. All of their married life was spent in Minneapolis. Evelyn worked at Schilling Air Force Base before doing domestic work and childcare in Minneapolis.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Gusta L. Gray Chapter of the O.E.S. in Abilene, the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #3201, and the Presbyterian Women. She also was a faithful attendee at the Allen Chapel AME Church in Salina.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Charles in 1999; her daughter Jolene Phillips in 2013; brother William Payton; and her sisters Laura Hill, Lille Helm, and Della Payton.
Survivors include her son Charles Cooper, Jr. and his wife Gaynell of El Paso, TX; son-in-law Sam Phillips of Rosenberg, TX; and nine grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, April 10 at the Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the Allen Chapel AME Church.
