MINNEAPOLIS - Esther Mae Winsett passed away May 13, 2008 at her home in Minneapolis, Kansas. She lived all her life in the Ottawa County area.
Esther was born on August 19, 1920 to Guy Hobart McGowan and Gladys Hattie (Emig) McGowan. She was born on a farm in Ottawa County. She attended Locust Hill Country School. Esther married Verl Delmar Winsett on May 12, 1943 in Concordia, Kansas. She was the mother of Cynthia Susan Marymee and Bradley Guy Winsett.
Esther was a homemaker all her life and worked as an aide for eighteen years at the Ottawa County Hospital, retiring in 1985. She loved to sew and crochet. She and her husband loved camping, square dancing, and attending dances at the area Moose Clubs. She loved to be outside caring for her yard and painting her house. She was a wonderful cook, especially known for her scalloped potatoes, rhubarb pie and potato salad. She hosted many wonderful family dinners. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Esther is preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Gladys McGowan; her husband, Verl Winsett; her daughter, Cynthia Marymee; and her three sisters, Vesta Jones, Lela Householder, and Neomi Shirk. She is survived by her son, Bradley Winsett and his wife Karen and their sons, Jason and Cody Winsett son-in-law, Wallace Marymee and his children, Wallace Verl Marymee, Kelly Todd Marymee, and Heather Ann Martin; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 P.M., Saturday at Wilson Shields Funeral Home in Minneapolis, Kansas with burial in Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 P.M. to 8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Ottawa County Hospital and may be left in care of the funeral home.
