David R. Rupert, 63, died July 31, 2015 at the Ottawa County Health Center of a heart attack. He was born August 18, 1951 in Wichita to Richard Rupert and Lucille (Gaines) O'Brien.

Dave graduated from Minneapolis High School in 1969. He was a lifelong resident of Minneapolis, and he was incredibly active in the community. Dave spent countless hours volunteering at the baseball fields; he coached baseball for 25 years including the 1978 Babe Ruth Kansas District second runners-up and the 1996 K-18 Baseball League state champions; he served for 34 years on the Minneapolis Volunteer Fire Department; he was President of the Cemetery Board; he was a member of the Noon Lions Club for nearly 40 years; and he was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian church and served as deacon, elder, session member and worked on the grounds committee. He retired from the National Guard after more than 20 years of service.

Most folks remember Dave wearing his shirt from D&M Body Shop, at which he worked since 1967 and purchased in 1985. Dave took immense pride in his work, and he truly enjoyed working with the people of Minneapolis and surrounding communities.

When he wasn't working or volunteering in the community, Dave spent time with his family: his wife, Cindy (Nordyke), and three children, Angie, Casey and Mikey. Dave made special arrangements to attend all of his kids' activities while they were young; he took countless trips to Manhattan to visit while they attended and graduated from Kansas State; and, throughout the last 15 years, Dave traveled frequently to Los Angeles to visit his children and his grandson. He is survived by his wife, Cindy; children Angie Rupert and husband Jason Insalaco and Casey and Mikey Rupert; grandson Spencer; father-in-law and mother-in-law Jess and Sandra Nordyke; and brothers-in-law Calvin Nordyke and Buck Nordyke. He is preceded in death by his mother Lucille O'Brien, his father Richard Rupert, his step-father Joe O'Brien and his sister Ellen Czarnowsky.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, at the First Presbyterian Church, Minneapolis. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis where the family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Minneapolis Recreation Commission and may be left in care of the funeral home.
