Consuelo (Connie) Pineau passed away in La Jolla, CA on Saturday, May 10, 2014. She was born June 2, 1910 to Helen Ablard Crowley and Cornelius Crowley in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was just 22 days short of being 104.
Her father was a vice-president of Weyerhauser Lumber Company which was then headquartered in Minneapolis. He died when she was seven years of age. She and her mother then moved to Long Beach, California where they lived for several years before relocating to Los Angeles. She attended the University of Southern California in Pasadena and graduated in 1933 with a degree in Business Administration. She was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She married Rene deVaranne in 1935. In 1949 she traveled to Europe on one of the first post-World War tours of Europe and returned on the maiden voyage of the restored Ile de France after its wartime service. She saw the opportunity for a travel business specializing in European tours and began deVaranne Tours which she operated 30 plus years which included around the world tours including the Far East as well as Europe.
After her first marriage ended in divorce; it was on one of these trips she met her second husband Larry E. Pineau. They married in 1964. They lived in Kansas City, Mo for a number of years before moving to La Jolla, California. In Kansas City she was active in charity work raising funds for Research Hospital, Nelson Atkins Art Gallery and other institutions. In La Jolla, she was an active member of the Social Service League serving as fund-raising chair for several years. Larry Pineau preceded her in death in 1997. She then moved to the Pacific Regent in La Jolla where she met the "love of her life" Hayden Atchison. They were married in 2004. He died in 2008.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 27 at the First Presbyterian Church, Delphos. Inurnment will be in the Delphos Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the city of Delphos for improvements to the City Auditorium and Delphos City Park.
