Charles J. "Chuck" Jones
Charles J. "Chuck" Jones, 86, Minneapolis, passed away Friday, May 15, 2009 at the Ottawa County Health Center in Minneapolis.
He was born February 1, 1923 at Scottsbluff Nebraska, the son of Benjamin W. and Lillian M. Moorehouse Jones, and grew up in Denver, CO.
Chuck served proudly in the United States Marine Corps, in the Tank Corps on Guadalcanal. Following his return to the United States, he was united in marriage to Betty L. Carr (Lund) June 2, 1944 at San Diego, CA. Chuck was re-deployed to the Pacific, where he served in the Air Corps on Okinawa.
He was a sales manager for Gerber Products in San Diego, El Paso and Denver, until retiring in 1985. He and Betty moved to Minneapolis, KS in May, 1988.
Chuck was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Marine Corps League, the Lost Dutchman Association and the Gold Prospectors Association. He attended the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife Betty L. Jones of the home; a daughter Nancy L. Kennedy of Minneapolis and 2 sons, Mark R. Jones and his wife Margo, also of Minneapolis and Christopher J. Jones of Emporia; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Darlene Unger and a grandchild.
Cremation has been effected. There will be no visitation or service. The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers to Love INC, the Ottawa County Health Center, or the First Presbyterian Church, in care of the Wilson Shields Funeral Home, Minneapolis.
