Carroll D. Somers, 84, Delphos, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at the Nicol Home in Glasco. He was born December 15, 1931 to Robert and Ethel Somers.

Carroll served in the United States Army in Germany during the Korean War. He married Jennie Whitley on May 15, 1969 and they resided in Delphos.

Carroll was a member of the Delphos Lions Club and the Delphos City Council. He was instrumental in starting the Delphos Museum and he served on the museum board. Carroll was an avid K-State fan most of his life. He enjoyed joking with the nursing staff and betting on K-State to win. A loss for K-State meant he had to wear a KU shirt for a day. Carroll never met anyone he didn't like – if you met him once you were a lifetime friend. He always looked forward to family gatherings and visitors. Carroll was a jokester but also a very kind and caring gentleman. He was a man of many stories and he had a memory of everything. He was a go to man if you needed anything done. Carroll will always be remembered for his 35 years as groundskeeper at the Delphos Cemetery. He took pride in keeping it in order.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Jennie; brothers Cecil, Tommy, Jerry, and Jack; and sister June.

Survivors include his two brothers John (Marcia) Somers and Jesse Somers; three sisters Lulu Kranz, Judy Bloomer (Dave), and Leanna Holt; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, November 1 at Wilson Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, where the family will receive friends from 5-7. Burial will be in the Delphos Cemetery with military honors.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Delphos Museum or the Nicol Home.
