Avis Irene Shafer, 87, Minneapolis, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at the Salina Regional Health Center. She was born August 30, 1924 in Manchester, KS to Ed and Irene (Britt) Paul.

Avis was a 1942 graduate of Minneapolis High School. She then worked for various local businesses and she later worked at the ASC office and the Bank of Tescott. Avis and Jack Shafer were united in marriage on October 26, 1947. She was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Ada where she served as pianist/organist for over 50 years, playing for numerous weddings and funerals. She was a homemaker and an Avon lady. Jack and Avis both worked for the Salt Creek Watershed in Barnard where she was office manager from 1973-2001. 44 dams were completed during those years.

Avis was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Doc Carson.

Survivors include her husband, Jack of Minneapolis; daughters, Sue Kline and her husband Frank of Lecompton and Kay Shafer of Dallas; two step-grandchildren, Carter Kline and his wife Christina and Matthew Kline and his wife Mary; four step-great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and family that loved her laughter and her beauty, inside and out.

Visitation will be 2 P.M. to 7 P.M., Friday at the Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, where the family will receive friends from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. Services will be at 1 P.M., Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Nate Marsh and the Rev. Bob Turner officiating. Private family graveside services will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. Memorial contributions may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church or Good Samaritan Society – Minneapolis.
