Alfred J. Ptacek, 80, Minneapolis, died June 9, 2008 at Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. He was born April 14, 1928 in Dorrance, Kansas to Frank and Anna (Kepka) Ptacek.
Al was united in marriage with Edna R. Schmidtberger on June 24, 1952 in Victoria, Kansas. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, charter member and first Grand Knight of the Minneapolis Knights of Columbus, and the V.F.W. Post 3201 all of Minneapolis. He was also a former president and member of the U.S.D. 240 School Board. Al worked as a salesman for Salina Steel for many years.
Al was preceded in death by his brothers, Dr. Edward, Ernest, Wilfred (Mike), and Father Maurice Ptacek; his sister, Mary Ann Ptacek; his grandson, Lyle and a baby granddaughter.
He is survived by his wife, Edna of the home; his children and their families;

Al is also survived by his brother, Francis Ptacek of Russell; and his sisters, Bea Gerstenkorn of Waterloo, Anna Mae Janda of Lyons, and Helen Reeves of Sylvan Grove, Kansas.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church, where a prayer vigil and rosary will begin at 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities or the Ottawa County Health Center Long Term Care Unit and may be sent in care of Wilson Shields Funeral Home.
