Francis Alcid "Al" Hoover, 83, Minneapolis, died Friday, November 5, 2021, peacefully at his home. He was born October 21, 1938, in Concordia to Francis and Gladys (Richard) Hoover while the family was living in Washington County.

Al was a 1957 graduate of Minneapolis High School and then he attended Rockhurst College in Kansas City, MO. Al and Virginia Simons were married on January 2, 1960, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Miller, SD. Al was a wheat farmer in South Dakota and had to quit due to health reasons in 1977. He owned and operated Al Hoover Oil in downtown Minneapolis for 10 years. Al also worked at ElDorado, American Fire, DuroTest Lighting, and G.L. Huyett.

Al was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, serving as Treasurer for many years and he was a charter and lifetime member of the Minneapolis Evening Lions Club. He was a past state Vice President for the Kansas Jaycees and a local President and was chairman of the Board of Rock City when it was named a national natural landmark while Al was chairman.

Al enjoyed watching and hearing young people, especially his grandchildren. He even enjoyed this past Halloween, just a few days before his passing. He dressed up and handed out candy in the lobby at Elkhorn apartments. This was a fun task that he totally enjoyed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bernard Hoover; and sister-in-law, Marie Hoover; and brother-in-law, Fred Phelps.

Survivors are his wife of 61 years, Virginia; children, Janet Zeiner, Tony (Robin) Hoover, and Alan Hoover; siblings, Richard Hoover, John Hoover, Alberta (Ray) Myers, and Rita Hoover; sister-in-law, Connie (William) Preheim; grandchildren, Brad (Randi) Zeiner, Chelsea (Jeremiah Johnson) Joel (Nicole) Zeiner, Julia Zeiner, Sylvia (Kellan) Arpke, and Phillip (Prisca) Sawyer; five great-grandchildren, Nora and Lily Kvacik and Kirri, Katara, and Saya Sawyer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 13 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Minneapolis. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. Visitation will begin at 4:00 P.M., Friday at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, where a prayer vigil and rosary will begin at 7:00 P.M. The family is asking that masks be worn at all events.
